TCI is proud to have contributed to many physical improvements in the Town Center over the years. Benches, sidewalks, crosswalks, festival banners and lighting have been added or improved because of TCI’s advocacy. Our larger goal is to advocate for and inform planning that will lead to the development of a lively, walkable retail and residential district — that in turn strengthens Glastonbury’s sense of community — in Town Center.
Our 2008 mini-charrette introduced many new planning concepts and processes which we hope will inform the town’s planning activities as they pertain to the Town Center. We have also sponsored other public forums focused on issues of planning, parking, zoning and economic development, which you will find documented on this site.
Following the successful completion of a downtown traffic study and update of the Plan of Conservation and Development, in the fall of 2009 the Town Council solicited proposals for a Town Center Sustainable Land Use and Development Study. A planning firm is expected to be selected first quarter of 2010.
Pending funding and further definition by town staff and council, we anticipate a public planning process, in which we encourage citizens, property and business owners, and developers to be involved.
